Startpage äußert sich zur Beziehung mit System1 LCC
Startpage hat nun reagiert und äußert sich in einem Blog-Beitrag. Zur Erinnerung:
In its early years, Surfboard Holding had numerous shareholders. However, during its significant formative years, Surfboard Holding shareholders were substantially reduced to its core founders, who acquired a majority stake in 2006. We most recently welcomed Privacy One Group Ltd, a privacy-focused division that is a separate operating unit of System1 LLC, as a significant new shareholder. Surfboard Holding’s founders and management continue to own an important stake in the company and lead its privacy focused-mission. You can find the press article here.
Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war unklar, wie hoch der Anteil ist, den System1 LLC an Startpage erworben hat. Das wird nun deutlich:
Besides the stake that System1 acquired through the Privacy One Group (its wholly owned subsidiary), the original founders remain shareholders in Surfboard Holding B.V. System1 has majority ownership of Startpage, although as noted above, the Startpage founders have control over the privacy components of Startpage.
Das bedeutet: System1 hat eine Mehrheitsbeteiligung an Startpage. Startpage gehört damit mehrheitlich einem US-Unternehmen mit Hauptfirmensitz in Venice, Kalifornien (USA).
Die wichtigste »Währung« im Datenschutz-Umfeld ist Vertrauen – für mich persönlich wird Startpage damit in dieser Hinsicht »wertlos«. Da hilft es auch nichts zu beteuern, dass
